Major fire destroys Medline warehouse in Tracy (California)
What happened
A major fire destroyed on 11 June 2026 a roughly 90,000 m² medical products warehouse of Medline Industries in Tracy and triggered evacuations in the surrounding area, including at FedEx and Amazon sites. All approximately 120 employees were able to get to safety. A failed sprinkler system and problems with the hydrants complicated firefighting efforts; lithium-ion batteries from warehouse robots released additional hazardous substances.
Potential impact
Temporary disruption of medical product distribution in the Western USA as well as impairment of regional air quality; loss amount currently not quantified.
Relevance for companies
Case study for fire protection in large warehouses: availability of the sprinkler system, fire water supply and new cumulative risks from Li-ion-powered warehouse robotics.
